This beautiful system was passed as part of the Arica work and trainings I so value from the deepening of my explorer's quest in the mid '70's through the human potential movement. In quest of the Holy Human Protype –Arica's term for the visionary enlightened "metasociety"... Oh,why can't we just live in Peace?? Maybe because things are so stirred up and we have lost sight of the "virtues" ... this meditation is a powerful tool for remembering at a somatic level (through body position), through associated sound (mantra), and through koan (spiritual contemplation) and even sacred geometry! Printable version COMMUNITY MEDITATION Ceremony enhanced by multi-dimensional skills developed in preceding meditations: This community meditation/ceremony was enjoyed by myself and children and supportive partner and shared with all our guests at the dinner table before we ate. It is about pausing to bring ourselves into presence with each other; feeling the gift of gratitude; and passing and enlarging the energy of connection and unconditional love. The Ceremony: We begin by each sharing with brief but sincere words reconnecting with the incident, a moment during the day, when we felt a smiling heart... eg. A moment hearing bird song, a special line from a song, an exchange of looks with a stranger, a whiff of dinner..... Once we've all contributed, we take hands forming a circle. Someone in the group remembers the "bija" – the seed sound of the day. [Refer to the "Virtues" enneagon for the mantra ("bija")/virtue/day-of-the week associations] . The bija is named and someone else recalls its meaning and another of us its virtue. Then we "sound" the bija together. [if you have ever sounded an extended resonant "om" with a group, you have an idea of the type of sustained sound we create]. Then silence, again. Next "spirit starts the pulse" ... any one of us might feel the presence of spirit in any way we interpret; this feeling would prompt one to start the pulse by passing energy to our left (clockwise) by a crisp but gentle squeeze from our left hand; this prompts the receiver of the squeeze (pulse) to pass it on and so on. We pass this pulse around the circle seven times! It travels quickly when we are all alert and "present". Then we stop again and some of us declare our brand of amen's. In our case: "ah ho Mitakuye Oyasin"... |
